A Dedicated Life of Growth!
Because we want our communities to be able to reach the goals we have set for them, we ask that applicants for our project meet a number of important criteria. These qualifications will ensure that both you and the community will be able to live together in harmony at Jewish Village:
Shomer Shabbat The village will close down one hour before Shabbat and reopen one hour after sunset. Because of the nature of the community, a peaceful Shabbat is something we are sure all members of our program will want. Parking spots will be located in convenient locations right outside of the village if you need to leave the village before one hour after dusk.
Lashon Hara. We ask that the members of our community be as respectful as possible to one another. Lashon Hara will be frowned upon and we ask that all members share a polite environment.
A Loving and Kind Heart Most of those who will live at Jewish Village will be here because they have lived in a Jewish Community before, whether it be in New York City, Los Angeles or even Yerushalayim. With this experience you then know that it is much easier to reach out to people you have an invested interest in and be kind, considerate and helpful. Having a kind and loving heart only comes by showing it to your own family and to your neighbors.
Giving the Benefit of Doubt With a loving and kind heart we tend not to be as critical of our fellow Jew. Judge one another with kindness and realize that each person has his own path in life to take. You may be at another level, higher or lower. Either way, appreciate the difference.
Kashrut (Kosher Laws) Our goal is to have everyone reach the same basic level of Kashrut so that we may enjoy one another's homes. We want our Kashrut beliefs to bring each family together not keep us apart.
Modesty We all are aware of the importance of being modest in our minds as well as in our appearances. Just like any other orthodox community we want each family to teach modesty values to their children by example. Religious Jewish women have been known throughout all generations to know the importance of being modest in both dress and attitude. We expect the same for all women, married and unmarried, to live and respect these very important aspects of Jewish values.
Desire to Learn Torah Daily This fundamental and foundational aspect of Jewish Life is multi-faceted. We want every individual to have a desire to grow each day and become a better person. We embrace the concept of "Musar" (Rabbi Israel Salanter) to become a better Husband, a better Wife, a better Son, a better Daughter and a better friend. The best way to do this is to love the study of Torah each day. It is not a requirement to study full time but we encourage you to participate in this study to develop better character. A torah life is a life full of learning, growth, challenge and joy.
The expectations above are the basics of living in a Jewish Community. We are aware that there will be conflicts but these will be resolved by mutual respect and love. The key to living peacefully at Jewish Village is to embrace each day with a forward glance and to avoid letting small issues become problems.
The Love for Israel, our elders, the poor and the love for each other all play important roles in having a life long enjoyable experience regardless of where you live. At Jewish Village we want you to enjoy life and will do everything we can to give you that opportunity.
